Lena and the Mandrill

Out of pure curiosity. what's the deal with the Lena, Mandrill and Zedna pictures being used in the examples pages, I also see the exactly same pictures being used in the examples of the OpenCV website, and now I just saw Anthony linking to USC.edu (university of southern california) which also have those pictures in their database.

Are all you guys related somehow ? ImageMagick, OpenCV and USC, did you all go to that university ?
Are some of you working on the same projects ? like both IM and OpenCV ?

Indeed, I am far from certain that it is a good thing that Lena is a standard test image.

It's ok to me, nudity is very much needed in the computer graphics world, 3D artists cant be without, I use 3DSmax and ImageMagick for texture work, so have a relaxed relationship with nudity, I guess every 3D program comes with a "Create a human model" tutorial as 3DSmax does, and when you want to move on and improve it, then there's no way around having to look at reference images, of naked people.

I certainly was careful to keep the "potential offensiveness" of my new test image bank http://www.imagemagick.org/download/image-bank/ on the low side.
Irregardless of one's level of tolerance, there are public activities for which a most conservative standard is a good thing.

I know it contains a lot of fine hairs that is good for image testing, but why was it picked?
