alphaQuantum() works for us. We're using ImageMagick 6.2.7-0, the current release.

We cannot reproduce the problem. Your program ran against your icon without complaint.

We can reproduce the problem and have a patch in ImageMagick 6.2.7-1 Beta. The patch will be available sometime tommorrow. Thanks for the bug report.
