Thanks, this works fairly well.

The text lined up with areas that are whited out does get a little rumpled, but Tesseract is able to read that anyway.

I cannot provide the original owing to privacy concerns, but I think you can see that averaging all rows to a single row, and then removing the darkest pixels will not ...

I wish to remove vertical lines from an image of a form so that Tesseract will be able to read the piece of data in those lines.

More specifically, this form has a small box containing "NUMBER: XXXXX" which Tesseract does not even attempt to read because of the box surrounding it. I verified that ...
